Thank you for taking interest into my opossum pattern. This is my first ever pattern to write and to truly read. Every few days I will go over any messages or comments on corrections.
REVISED PATTERN 2/27/21 Went over the entire pattern with a better understanding of patterns. Cleaned up some vocab, corrected Row 5 . sorry for the confusion and thank you so much for stitcking with me during this process. I truly appropriate it. Having this new knowledge I will have a couple other ideas coming soon.
Under the Body skip Row 20 if you just want a plush. Be sure to add fluff before finishing off the face and tail.

_____________________________________________________________________________
If making the tail into a hanger take the PVC Pipe, heat gun, pliers, gloves, and hammer. Do this in a well ventilated area. THIS CAN GET VERY HOT!
Make a mark at 3inches and 5 inches down from either side of the PVC Pipe.
Take your heat gun and heat up between the markings, keep the heat gun no more than 2 inches from the pipe. After heating up the PVC pipe grab your hammer after 30 sec check for softness. If it indents set hammer down in between the marks. Take pliers and slightly wrap around one side of the hammer. Hold there until cooled. Use the heat gun to heat up other side. Repeat the slight wrap until desired shape
It wont look pretty but it is covered with yarn.
For the tail you will need the Black and Tan yarn.

Place toes in narrow hole of leg. With black yarn close with basic sewing stitch
Now that you have all your parts ready. 1st put PVC in tail, use black yarn to attach tail to back of opossum. The stitch should be a good guidance.
Sew legs on to under belly, added picture for placement.
Sew on ears, place eyes in correct area (about 2 inches apart). Making sure the pouch is under. Picture for guidance.
Finishing touch will be using the two gray yarns and creating the triangle on the forehead. Add around the body and head if you need a smooth transition. Use a large darning needle and about 2ft of yarn. Use a back stitch to complete this. Best to find where you want to tip of the triangle and work to the body. Back and forth back and forth.

ReplyDeleteOMG, so cute! Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteFor row 2 on body- how many stitches should you have at end of row? Is it 3 sc and then a increase and if so there is not enough stitches in the row to do what row 2 says? I am confused.
ReplyDeleteI am reviewing the entire pattern over the next couple days. I'm sorry for the hiccups will report back when the 2nd revision is posted
DeleteI’m stuck on row 2 on the body as well. Tried to use common sense to revise the stitches but got stuck. Maybe where the rows are listed put the total amount of stitches per row in parenthesis (ex: Row 1 (11))? Love the pattern though! ❤️
DeleteSo cute! Thanks for sharing. I too have the tail made and am confused with row 2 of body. I agree number of stitches per row would be very helpful! Please let me know when you have an update. sdk
DeleteHas the row 2 issue been corrected?
DeleteThank you so much for your hard work, incredible talent and sharing it all with us!!
Can't wait to make this. How are the corrections going? My tail is done.
ReplyDeleteYo no logro comprender nada de este patrón no sé si se teje en círculos, recto, las abreviaturas no se entienden alguunas y no sé por qué hay líneas que no cuadran en o eso comentan
DeleteI really love this opposum. I just wish it had a print pdf option. When printed it cuts off half of the rows.
ReplyDeleteI copied and pasted it to a word doc and printed that cause same
DeleteYou could forgo the pipe and just create a button hole at the end of the tail. The weight of the bags and project would be easily supported by a button.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking you could just use a wire coat hanger for the tail?
DeleteI think im going the coat hanger route myself
DeleteLooking forward to clarifications also. In addition, you stated we needed 3.5mm and 5mm hooks. I didn't see where it stated to change from the 3.5mm to the other hook. I'm assuming the body is done in 3.5mm. Did I miss something? Thank you! Such a cute pattern and I already have 5 friends who want me to make this for them. 😊
ReplyDeleteIt says bump up your hook at the beginning of body i took that to mean to change to 5mm
DeleteHi Vanessa! I love this. Can I ask if by "bump up on the hook" for the body instructions, your meaning is to crochet with two strands of yarn at once to increase the thickness? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI took it to mean to switch to 5mm
DeleteRow 2. has me stumped also.
ReplyDeleteIf you chain 11 and slip stitch to form a circle, that gives you 11 holes to make 11 single crochets. Row two of the body fills only 9 holes, should there be an additional 2 single crochet or only 9 holes to start with?
ReplyDeleteWhat a cuddle bug!!!! Can't wait to try making this. As others have asked I'm struggling with the number of required stitches at end of each row, when to use what hook size and are two strands of yarn needed for the body, if so what hook size does "bump up" call for. TIA
ReplyDeleteIs the face in white supposed to be double stranded as well as the body or do we go back to the 3.5m hook and one strand of yarn?
ReplyDeleteI came looking for this answer
DeleteI double stranded it with the bigger hook.
DeleteYour abbreviations aren't standard, and you don't have many of them in your key, are you going to add them in? I'm trying to make sense of the pattern, but I think that is the hardest part right now.
ReplyDeleteSo combine this pattern, loosely! With this pattern, https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/possum-family , and you can get a bag.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern still needs corrections on the body part. There are too many increases in each row and the result is the "circle" is wavy. There should be a couple of rows on sc only to create a flat circle. Help!
ReplyDeleteRight or go from 2sc, increase to 3 sc,increase 4sc, inscrease ect like most patterns.
Deletebody is done in the 5.00mm hook
ReplyDeleterow 13 of the head also needs an additional sc3 after the last decrease to make your numbers come out.
ReplyDeletePlease help...the ears make no sense to me at all. can you please clarify?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone answer your question? Or did you figure it out? I’m having problems with the ears too. I think I might have to do my own thing with them.
DeleteInstead of going back and forth I just went around the whole thing. The ears turned out sort of like an oval
Deletecan you put in how many of each color yarn you need to make this? For instance, one ball of the pale grey, two of the black, etc... That would be a big help when buying yarn for this project
ReplyDeleteWelp i tried making the face and following line for line it looks nothing like the photos.
ReplyDeleteI can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong with the ears...on row 3 it says to make 3sc but I only have 2 stitches to go into from the previous row. Am I increasing in one of these two stitches to make 3?
ReplyDeleteI have tried multiple times to get the face to look like the pic but following the instructions to the letter results in a really flat face with a shrew-like nose. What am I doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteAs normal standard crochet abbreviations were not used, this is the most confusing pattern. I finally just looked at the pictures and did my own thing to make it look like that.
ReplyDeleteI was having trouble with the ears, so here's what I did for mine
ReplyDeleteblack yarn
ch 10, join to round
10 sc rd, join slst for 5 rnd
1 2 3 4 5
join with tan (complete the slst on row 5 with tan)
dec sc rnd (ends on dec and goes into the previous slst)
dec rnd
join with slst
there are abreviations I'v e never heard of and they aren't listed in your abbrev list. Sounds like there are a lot of mistakes. How can I find the corrected pattern
ReplyDeleteThe crochet terminology isn’t the same as what is used across patterns regularly, which makes this hard to follow.
ReplyDeleteIt never tells you which hook to use for which part. I’m not sure if this is what is meant by “bumping up the hook” or not.
The materials used calls for Beige and Taupe but the pattern only ever mentions Tan. I’m guessing this is the Beige, so I’m not sure where the Taupe is supposed to be used.

stitches in body do not add up! After chaining 11, she wants us to put 2 SC in the first 3 stitches? That doesn't add up to 11
ReplyDeleteSo i'm having trouble with the instructions for the body as well. I am also struggling with not having a stitch count at the end of each row in the pattern for guidance. I've started my body and pulled it apart 4 times now. I'm at the point where I'm going to try to do my own thing, including using a magic circle to start as row 1.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping all the errors would be fixed by the time I had to make this. Unfortunately it's still loaded with errors, and the face was the biggest pain to figure out. It would be cool to know If I need to double-strand the ears, start with black, or even have counts on every row considering none of the rows are lining up. You start with one less stitch when you start the face.. looks like a stitch is dropped on some rows
ReplyDeletehow much yarn did this take to complete?
ReplyDeleteThank you for revising the pattern. I wasn't sure if about the ears. I just went around the whole piece instead of back and forth. Otherwise I didn't find any problems with the pattern. I still have to sew the feet in and I'll be finished. Thank you and merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with the term SLKT, SLKM or SLST. Would like an explanation of those stitches. Also, for the body, what is meant by "use both gray yarns?" Are you to crochet with 2 strands of yarn, Gray and Pale Gray simultaneously?
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute!! Im going to have to make one now!! Thank you for sharing this one for us!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not seeing any pictures :(
